Focus Area: Research and monitoring

Research and monitoring
ZS Luujin is committed to continuous research and undisrupted monitoring and evaluation to ensure the effectiveness of our efforts. By collecting and analyzing data on wildlife populations, habitat conditions, and enforcement measures, we can assess progress, adapt strategies, and drive informed decision-making. This rigorous approach not only strengthens our on-the-ground initiatives but also helps raise awareness, secure funding, and pursue impactful conservation results.

Research and monitoring goals and objectives

ZS Luujin is committed to advancing science-based conservation through robust research, long-term monitoring, and the development of a strong national conservation platform. In recent years, efforts have focused on not only protecting species and ecosystems but also building the institutional foundation needed for long-term impact. One major milestone has been the transition of Compass/ZSL Mongolia into Luujin, an independent, nationally registered NGO. This process included restructuring the board, formalizing internal policies, and updating registration status—laying the groundwork for good governance and transparency. To support ongoing research and conservation efforts, ZS Luujin has also prioritized:
  • Strengthening visibility through a new website, communication materials, and social media presence
  • Developing a financial sustainability strategy through a detailed Business Plan
  • Leading and participating in joint fundraising initiatives to scale up conservation impact, including:
    • IWT Extra (2024)
    • Darwin Main (2024)
    • INL (2024)
    • NGS (2024)
Through close collaboration with ZSL and other partners, Luujin continues to build a nationally rooted conservation organization that combines scientific rigor, community partnership, and long-term strategic planning—ensuring research and monitoring efforts directly inform and strengthen conservation action.
